That's why I don't read older romance novels. Modern ones rarely have questionable consent and icky-afterwards.

My favorite regency authors: Joanna Bourne (LOVE!!!), Liz Carlyle, Teresa Medieros. Favorite victorian authors: Lisa Kleypas, Meredith Duran. I'm sure there are more...but I can't remember at the moment.

Hi Marie-Claude,
I feel this way too sometimes. In talking with other authors, I think most of us feel this at some point.

We're all on our own paths and they're all different. You need to look at what you've accomplished, celebrate that you've done so much more than most people who dream of being an author. Realize that it's not a mistake and that you're not a fraud. You caught the eye of a publisher and that's a huge thing.

One thing I did (and I was thrilled to hear Bob Mayer mention this in a recent workshop too) was read some of my favorite author's first books. Some are no longer in print, but you can often times find them used on Amazon. Although their authorial voice was there, their work got even better through subsequent works. It helped solidify for me that talent is something that can grow over an author's career. We can always learn how to improve our writing. To me, this gave me hope.

All we can do is write the best book we possibly can at this point in time. (Pat White told me that.)

Not everything will always go smoothly for either of us, but if you don't try, nothing will happen. That's a given.

So I say, if you're happy with it, send it out, girl!

People always ask "How do you write a book?" When you say, "A page at a time," they look at you like you're crazy. The math is pretty simple. If you write two pages a day, that's two books a year.

I find that if I give myself insentives at first, like a new song download for each scene, eventually I don't need it anymore and the reward is the accomplisment. But it takes a while to get to that stage!

Deadlines are tricky beasts. Self-imposed deadlines never seem as serious as externally motivated deadlines. Finding that sense of self-discipline can be very hard. Lord knows I struggle with it daily!

I know. It is amazing what we can actually accomplish sometimes when we get down to it.
I took both 10 days and 3 months to revise the same amount. I had a deadline for the first!
We need to make our own deadline I suppose.

I spent hours at Starbucks or the library working on my revisions (I had a week and a half to get them done). Like you, I wondered how much I could get done if I worked that hard every day.
